The Month we Spent Staring at the Baby (i.e. September)

In the day or two after Celeste came home, we mostly lounged around staring at the baby.  The kids fought over her from the very beginning.

Ice cream was included in one of our Relief Society meals.

Thursday of that week was the first day of Crescenta Valley Latin Academy, which is the same group the kids participated in for the past two years, but bigger and with a new name and uniforms.  This year classes are held twice a week, and contain a full curriculum for the younger grades.  Even Corinne got to attend Junior Kindergarten and pack a lunch like the big kids!

While the older kids had their first day of school, Celeste and I enjoyed the peace and quiet.

The remainder of the month was equally full of baby-holding.  It's funny how everything a newborn does (various cute ways of sleeping) seems to need a picture.  I love all of them.

Aunt Helena came and met Celeste!  I don't think she got puked on, either.

One evening, Ryan set up his new projector in the front yard, and the kids got to watch Star Wars outside.  They wanted to sleep out on the lawn afterwards, but I said, "No, you need to go in the tent, or you'll get crawled on by crickets and black widows and tarantulas while you sleep!"  Elise replied, "No we won't!", followed by, "Aaaah! A tarantula!"  Right at that moment, an actual tarantula was crawling past their air mattress.  They slept in the tent.

Celeste's first bath was really weird.  She didn't scream or cry like my other babies did - her eyes just got really big for a minute, then she kicked and looked around like it was the most pleasant event of her life so far.  Also, she got the lazy baby-eyes for my picture; it was quite flattering.

The other kids entertained themselves pretty well that month.  They attended some art and music classes put on by their soon-to-be new piano teacher, and Connor learned how to sell things on ebay, starting with Ryan's limited edition Green Lantern minifigure (he got it at E3 and didn't feel an attachment to it.)  Somebody payed $50 for the thing.

Art Class

One random Wednesday, Ryan took the kids fishing at a stocked pond.  It was pretty hot, and Elise was the only one to catch a fish, but Evan and Corinne ate it when they got home.

We tried to include our kids in the events of this year's election without destroying their respect for the men and women involved.  We really tried.

Elise's Debate Analysis

Connor, Elise, and Evan participated in their first Taekwondo tournament.  It was a forms only tournament, which made it less intimidating for kids like mine who hate sparring.  They all won trophies in their categories, which was pretty cool!

Ryan went to all kinds of trouble to think up and install a latch system to keep the bear from dumping out our trash.  Apparently it just knocked the can over, did Bear CPR on it, and popped it open enough to pull the goodies out.

Last but not least, here are some more baby pictures!
