Two days afterwards, the weather spiked higher than I can remember seeing it. Celeste cooled off in the water table/baby pool. We did lots of fun summery stuff.
Because our friends, the Vances, had postponed going back to Michigan, we were able to spend more time with them, including going to Leo Carillo Beach. Just before we left, Evan decided to organize a trash pick up. Even though the trash was pretty gross, I encouraged his act of altruism.

On Thursday, July 12, we headed up to the Bay Area for a few days. Corinne was super excited to lose her first tooth on the drive!
Our plan was to bike around Angel Island, in the San Francisco Bay. We met up with the Palmers, took the ferry over with our bikes, and did a circuit of the whole island. Corinne started out on her own bike, but gave up pretty early, so I put her in the trailer with Celeste. I was really grateful for my electric assist wheel!

Near the end, we stopped at this amazing private beach! |
On Saturday, the Palmers were busy, so we went to the Computer History Museum in Mountain View. It had everything from old clockwork counting machines and abacuses, to 1980's personal computers and the Apple "gumdrop" computer. Celeste was pretty naughty, so I didn't see everything, but she and the other kids loved the interactive area, where there were lots of sample games and activities. We spent the evening hanging out at the Palmers' house.
On Sunday after church, we loaded up the bikes again and drove across the Bay Bridge - something I thought would be dangerous but was actually quite pleasant. We left the next morning, with a stop at Natural Bridges State Marine Reserve.

Evan did a week of coding camp at a place called Orange Elephant. He got to use Scratch to build several games/animations, and came home wanting to continue the hobby.
Throughout July, the older kids continued to practice for SYMF. On Sunday the 29th, Ryan drove them down to Long Beach for their competitions, and they both did well - Connor got 1st in his division and Elise got 3rd in hers! Ryan took them to the USS Iowa battleship museum before they headed home.
