March 2019

After having a great time in Fall Ball the previous season, Evan decided he wanted to continue with the more intense spring season of baseball.  Luckily, he got to play in the pinto age division again, which was a perfect fit for him.  Ryan took on the task of driving him to practices and games, and Evan LOVED it!

Connor had his 14th birthday!!  He had a low-key but awesome time playing video games and eating ice cream, Sour Patch Kids, and Fruity Pebbles.  His gifts included a skateboard and an engineering box subscription.

I had bribed Connor and Elise to participate in the school Shakespeare play, and by March, the dress rehearsals and costumes were getting started. Elise was an especially big fan of fake wounds.

Ryan got tickets for this great adaptation of the Magic Flute.  I stayed home with Celeste (who had just gotten lost for an hour by napping in Connor's loft bed, causing me to call 911.)  But Ryan and the other kids went, and had a great time!

My Latin class started preparing for the National Latin Exam, which involved studying a bunch of material on top of our regular curriculum.  We only reviewed for a couple of weeks, but the students did really well!

For spring break, Ryan planned a ski trip to Brian Head.  We rented a condo and invited all of my family to join us, including my mom, who has become a pretty serious skier in the past year.  The younger kids took day-long lessons, the older kids did a combination of free-skiing and lessons, and Celeste, Arya, and Lincoln hung out in the condo and played.  I mostly shadowed my mom, who convinced me to buy my own ski boots and rent/demo high quality skis.  It was definitely the best skiing experience I've ever had!

Ryan, unfortunately, was sick with something like strep throat the whole trip, and couldn't talk.  And Elise and I spent a huge amount of time and energy trying to get her ready for Certificate of Merit performances, which were two days after we got home. (We even packed a keyboard for her to use in the condo.) We also spent one afternoon visiting with Grandma Cloe at her new assisted living apartment Cedar City, which was really nice.

When we got home, we discovered that the house had become even more infested with ants!  Saturday morning, the kids did their CM performance tests and all passed.

(Branch Honors don't start until later levels.)

The weekend after CM, we went camping with our camp buddies in Joshua Tree.  It was terribly cold, and Connor had forgotten to bring his sleeping bag.  He tried to make do with a couple of coats and extra blankets, but wasn't very comfortable.  I woke up early from coldness, and let him nap in my bag for awhile.  Luckily, there was a place in town that rented sleeping bags, so he had a better second night.
