June 2019 (And Utah)

Evan's spring baseball season wrapped up in early June.  He was super excited when his team won the championship - especially since they got big trophies!

Final Game

Adam Smith and Scott Anderson definitely love CSA Ball.

Albanese - World's Best Gummy Bears!

Mary Standage arranged a field trip to Riley's Farm for their Revolutionary War program.  The kids did colonial games and crafts, and rotated through other historical activities like a trial and an explanation of the Stamp Tax.  At the end, they were divided into groups and reenacted a battle with sticks that went "boom".  We left with apple and chicken pot pie from the bakery.

Tinsmith - Corinne got a toy soldier!

The soldiers paid kids to do things for them during lunch.

Preparing for Battle

I only have two kids in primary this year!  But the two I've got both played piano pieces in the Primary Talent Show.  They did a great job and loved it.

After months of struggle, Winter and Little Mac finally became friends!  They're super snuggly now.   I bring them inside when the weather gets too hot.

I got to attend the homeschool convention in Ontario, California for a couple of days by myself.  It was so nice to be able to sit and listen to ideas for improving both my home and my school.  There's also something exciting about being surrounded by other homeschool moms!   I spent a good chunk of time walking around the exhibits in the vendor hall, too, and buying stuff I "needed".

While I was out, Ryan took the kids to Griffith Park and did a bunch of other fun activities.

This summer I let each kid pick a "camp" in a subject they were interested in.  Corinne did "Showstoppers Camp" at the Bloods' house, where she performed songs and a skit on the last day.  Connor did "Making Music" at the La Canada Community Center, where he used Garage Band on the Mac to transcribe music he knew by ear.  Evan did baseball camp with the CVHS team, and Elise did crochet lessons with our friend Chuey.

We were invited to a taco party with some friends one evening, and it got a lot more exciting than we expected.  Apparently an "armed suspect" resisted arrest and fled into the trees/bushes above these people's street.  We noticed when a police helicopter started circling overhead and several patrol cars blocked off the neighborhood.  They politely explained what was going on and encouraged us to wait inside, which most of us did some of the time.  The kids couldn't have been more delighted with the situation.  Supposedly they found the guy up in a tree, where a K9 unit sniffed him out.  I found a cool app called Citizen that gave us more information.  We went home pretty late, but it was definitely memorable.

Other June Pictures:

Snail Pyramid!

Two Deliveries - One is a pie for my friend Hillary, the other a rattlesnake for La Tuna Canyon.

Probably the last shot of them in a "car cart" I'll ever get.

End-of-Year Concert

Squirrels love eating Ryan's garden.

In late June, we left for a summer Utah trip!  I drove the kids up by myself, staying in Mesquite as usual.  When we got near Beaver, Celeste saw a rainbow outside her window and started yelling, "A unicorn made that!!"  (Except it sounded more like, "Udiduuh may dah!")  We pulled over to have a better look.

We spent time helping Grandma, going on popsicle walks, riding horses, and visiting the Nephi Pool.  Ryan also had fun - he got the gutters redone at home.

Ryan came up on the Fourth of July, and we were able to set off a ridiculous number of fireworks in front of Kyle's house.

We met Kevin and Liz in Salt Lake to go see "This is the Place Heritage Park", which I don't think I've been to since I was in elementary school.  It was a little similar to the Revolutionary War field trip, but obviously all about the pioneers.

Connor had to get back home for the Young Men's high adventure trip, so Ryan left with him a couple days early.  The four younger kids and I spent more time with Grandma and Cousins and Summer.
