February 2020

Elise went on a Young Women overnighter to Balboa Island.  They walked along the pier, ate yummy foods including Balboa bars, had a devotional, and went to the temple.  It was the first trip Elise had been on with the new younger girls, and she had tons more fun with friends her age!

Evan turned 10!!  He celebrated with birthday cereal, Vegas Seafood Buffet, and an ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins!

Our friends the Vances came to visit from Virginia!  Even though it was February, we did a trip to the beach and (Meili at least) swam in the pool!

As part of my goal to get better at camping in 2020, I prepped very thoroughly for our trip to Death Valley.  We took two cars, slept in two tents (boys and girls), and took more supplies than usual.  I was extremely happy I did this, because on the way there, Corinne threw up in the van. I figured it was just carsickness (I had accidentally taken a scenic route to get there), so I cleaned up the puke with some of my awesome cleaning supplies.  That night, however, Corinne got much worse, and I had many things to clean up in the tent.  Even the tent potty wasn't enough to solve the problem, so Ryan took our extra car and drove all night to get her home.  Poor Corinne.  Poor Ryan.  Poor me with my cleaning up.  But the rest of the trip was pretty good other than the rain.  We toughed it out and had fun hiking to our favorite Death Valley spots.

After Corinne left, the tent got cleansed inside by rainwater.

Sick Corinne had to sleep on the floor.

Corinne and Dad did a little hike of their own.

We were all weirdly sick towards the end of February, with fevers and/or coughs and runny noses.  We would wonder later whether it was an early wave of coronavirus, but my antibody tests said I never had it.

Kyle and I started planning our summer trip to Alaska.  The idea was to camp along the way, taking over a week to drive up, a week there, and a week to drive back.
